How to Identify the Correct Brake Caliper for Toyota Hilux

Learn how to identify the correct Toyota Hilux brake caliper using the OE number, installation side, vehicle year, VIN and product photos.

How to identify the correct Toyota Hilux brake caliper
Selecting the correct brake caliper for a Toyota Hilux is not always as simple as checking the vehicle model.
Different Hilux generations, production years, engine versions and regional specifications may use different front brake calipers. The left-hand and right-hand calipers also have different OE reference numbers.
For importers, distributors and repair professionals, confirming the correct application before ordering can help prevent incorrect shipments, installation problems and unnecessary costs.

1. Check the OE Number on the Original Brake Caliper

The OE number is one of the most useful references for identifying a Toyota Hilux brake caliper.
Toyota front brake caliper numbers commonly begin with:
• 47730 for one installation side • 47750 for the opposite installation side
However, the complete number is important. A difference in the final characters may indicate another caliper design or vehicle application.
Examples of Toyota brake caliper reference pairs include:
• 47730-0K300 / 47750-0K300 • 47730-0K190 / 47750-0K190 • 47730-0K060 / 47750-0K060
These reference numbers should not be considered interchangeable without checking the vehicle and caliper specifications.
The OE number may be found on the original caliper, vehicle parts catalogue, packaging label or repair document.

2. Confirm the Left and Right Installation Side

Front brake calipers are normally supplied as separate left-hand and right-hand units.
The two calipers may look very similar, but the bleeder screw position, brake hose connection and mounting direction are different.
A caliper installed on the wrong side may place the bleeder screw in an incorrect position. This can make it difficult to remove air from the hydraulic brake system.
Before ordering, confirm whether the required part is: • Front left brake caliper • Front right brake caliper • A complete left and right pair
For international orders, using only “driver side” or “passenger side” may create confusion because vehicles can be left-hand drive or right-hand drive. It is safer to provide the OE number and clear installation position.

3. Provide the Vehicle Information

If the OE number cannot be confirmed, the following vehicle details can help identify the correct caliper:
• Vehicle model • Production year • Engine displacement • Two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive • Left-hand drive or right-hand drive • VIN or chassis number • Front or rear axle • Photos of the original caliper
The VIN is helpful, but it should not be the only identification method. Vehicles supplied to different markets may have different brake configurations.
Combining the VIN with the original caliper photos and dimensions provides a more reliable result.

4. Compare the Original Caliper Photos

When sending photos, include more than one angle.
Useful photos should clearly show:
• Complete caliper body • Mounting holes • Brake hose connection • Bleeder screw position • Piston side • Caliper bracket • Casting marks or stamped numbers
A single front-view photo may not show enough information to distinguish between similar calipers.
Adding a ruler or measuring tool to the photo can also help confirm important dimensions.

5. Check Whether a Bracket Is Required

Some replacement brake calipers are supplied with a caliper bracket, while others include only the caliper body.
Before requesting a quotation, confirm whether you need:
• Brake caliper only • Brake caliper with bracket • Left and right caliper pair • Caliper repair components
This distinction can affect the product reference, price, package size and shipping weight.

6. When Only Repair Parts Are Needed

A complete brake caliper does not always need to be replaced.
Depending on the condition of the original unit, the repair may require:
• Brake caliper piston • Rubber seal and dust boot • Guide pin or slider pin kit • Bleeder screw • Caliper hardware kit • Rear caliper internal components
To identify the correct repair parts, provide the brake caliper OE number, piston diameter, guide pin dimensions and clear photos of the original components.
